Hellbent, by Gregg Hurwitz
“I'm
not saying it's easy. I'm saying it's worth doing. Pain is inevitable.
Suffering is optional.”
―
Gregg Hurwitz, Hellbent
Evan
Smoak returns once more, and this time, he's deadly serious about seeking
blood. It felt so good to read another Smoak book after so long. Hurwitz has
outdone himself this time with such an amazing thriller. Starting off with a
major death, this book sets itself up for success. Since this is the third book
in the pentalogy, you'd expect some closure and a new threat, but NOOOOO.
Instead, we're left in the dust with someone more powerful than the original
villain to fight Evan, Evan's father figure dead, a new character who brings so
much more into this already amazing book and even more suspense. Some
relationships grow, while others turn sour, but at the end, Evan is at a better
place, even though he hasn't realized it yet. Sure, he might be even more
bloodthirsty than before, but it is only after losing someone so close to him
that he realizes that there are others who care for him, and others he should
care about. One of the best thrillers in the world, this gets a 5/5 from me.
